Teens Protest City's Funding Cut To Teen Center
NEWTON, Iowa -- Some teenagers in Newton are taking issue with City Hall.
They are upset with a decision to drop the city's $17,000 contribution to a popular teen center. They want the City Council to reconsider.
The teens pressed their point at Monday's council meeting.
Mayor Chaz Allen said Newton faces some tough budget decisions, and it plans to lay off 18 workers by summer.
The council will hold a work session Wednesday to consider alternative funding sources for the center. Allen said they may consider dipping into its cash reserves to replace the money.
